Pressure Testing Piping

Dowdens Pumping & Water Treatment offers a wide range of services including pressure testing piping. Pressure testing piping also called 'Hydrostatic Testing' is a way of checking for leaks using pressurised fluid usually water as the test medium.

The video below shows a test using a hand operated pressure test pump and pressure gauge connected to the black steel water pipe, and pressurising to the customers specified 3000kpa or around 435psi.

Hydrostatic Pressure Test

The hydrostatic pressure test is the most common method employed for testing pipes and pressure vessels. Using this test helps maintain safety standards and durability of a vessel over time. Newly manufactured pieces are initially qualified using the hydrostatic pressure test.

Hydrostatic tests are conducted under the constraints of either the industry's or the customer's specifications or may also be required by law. The vessel is filled with a nearly incompressible liquid - usually water or oil - pressurised to test pressure, and examined for leaks or permanent changes in shape.

The test would be completed prior to galvanising/painting and dispatch or assembly, with the customer receiving a certificate containing the test results for reference purposes. This pipe passed with no delectable pressure loss for a test period of 30 minutes.

Dowdens Pumping & Water Treatment specialises in testing piping systems and water lines in the commercial, industrial, agricultural and mining sectors.
